In attendance:             Roger Adams, Jake Hamlin, George Ibach, Dave Johnson, Bill Marhoun, and Glen Terry.

II.                Is the MBA Going to Host A Safety Seminar?

Between 6-10 people attended the safety seminar from Sioux Falls and a suggestion was made to potentially alternate the hosting of an annual safety seminar with the Sioux Falls Balloon Club.

Roger Adams and George Ibach expressed that the MBA currently has momentum and should continue to host a safety seminar.

Motion: Glen Terry moved to have the MBA host a safety seminar within the next twelve months.  George Ibach seconded the motion. The motion was passed.

Dave Johnson will chair the development of the safety seminar.  All present are willing to commit to contributing toward the seminar.  Matt Wiedekehr and Jim Wiersgalla will be asked if they are interested in committing to the preparation of the 2001 MBA Safety Seminar.

A letter will be drafted and sent to the Sioux Falls Balloon Club stating the MBA will host a safety seminar.

III.             Where should the safety seminar be held?

With the exception of the frigid conditions, Aamodt’s Apple Orchard was well attended and liked.  Other suggestions included the Hudson House Inn, various community centers, perhaps in Rochester.  Glen Terry and Roger Adams emphasized it would be advantageous to hold the safety seminar in a different location each year.

No location was determined until discussions occur with the MBA membership.

IV.              When should the safety seminar be held?

Motion: Glen Terry moved to have the MBA host the safety seminar between the dates of 3/10/01 to 4/10/01.  George Ibach seconded the motion.  The motion was passed.

V.                 Type of Safety Seminar.

At the next safety seminar committee meeting, Dave Johnson will present the BFA core requirements for a recognized seminar.

Potential speakers and topics include: Bill Zanes, Bruce Comstock, Bruce Watson (weather), Scott Adams (weather), Steve Semanski (Princeton Flight Service), Rich Jaworski (sectional maps), Dave Schroeder (airspace regulations).

VI.              Items to Consider for Next Safety Seminar

-                     A deadline for a reduced fee for registration.

-                     Earlier distribution of the postcard reminder from the FAA.

-                     Donations from manufacturers (Lindstrand, Cameron, Wiedekehr Academy, National Balloon Museum, Eagle Balloons, Garman (GPS).

All Safety Seminar Committee members are requested to bring 2-3 topics of interest and identify 2-3 speakers for potential presentation at the safety seminar.

Committee members should be prepared to identify personal tasks and/or responsibilities in preparation for the safety seminar.

VII.           Next Meeting

The Safety Seminar Committee will meet prior to the June MBA membership meeting.

VIII.        Adjourn

Bill Marhoun moved to adjourn the meeting.  Jake Hamlin seconded the motion.  The motion passed.
