Meeting Minutes

Monday, May 22, 2000

I.                   Meeting called to order at 7:00p.m. (Dave Johnson)

In attendance:             Jake Hamlin, Dave Johnson, and Glen Terry. 

 

II.                Approval of 4-17 MBA Agenda

Motion: Glen Terry moved that the 4-17 MBA Agenda be approved.  Jake Hamlin seconded the motion.  The motion was passed.

 

III.             Approval of Minutes from April 17, 2000 Meeting

Motion: Dave Johnson moved that the 3-20 meeting minutes be approved.  Jake Hamlin seconded the motion.  The motion was passed.

 

IV.              Treasurer’s Report (Glen Terry)

Glen Terry reported a balance of $1,058.6.  Dave Johnson made a statement complimenting Glen Terry on a job being well done.

Motion: Jake Hamlin moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Glen Terry seconded the motion. The motion was passed.

 

V.                 Committee Reports

A.                 Safety Seminar (Dave Johnson)

A meeting to coordinate the safety seminar hosted by the MBA next year  is scheduled to be held prior to the June membership meeting.  If you are interested in committing to help in the organization of the seminar contact Dave Johnson at Dave_Johnson@campls.org .  See the enclosed meeting notes from the 5-18 Safety Seminar committee meeting.

 

B.                 Balloon Education

The first donations were made to the MBA library.  The Private Pilot Test Prep ’98 and Minnesota 2000: Airport Directory and Travel Guide are available for reference purposes.  If you have any texts, CDs, or other materials you are willing to date to the MBA library please contact Jake Hamlin at pboeandjhamlin@uswest.net .

 

C.                 Ground School

No updates were presented. 

 

D.                 Social Events

No updates were presented.

 

E.                  State Fair Booth

 Core hours for membership to be present will be established for each day during the State Fair.  Members are to represent the MBA, yet may display commercial literature only when present.  No individual commercial literature may be available when a member is not present.

 

VI.              Old Business

A.                 MBA Balloon Pins

Motion: Glen Terry moved to provide each MBA member with the official MBA pin (white background) and each additional pin for members as well as pins for non-members be sold for $2.00.  Jake Hamlin seconded the motion.  The motion was passed.  The first order of pins were produced on a yellow background (manufacturer’s mistake) and can be purchased for $1.00.

 

B.                 FAA Designated Examiner

Dave Johnson will attempt to contact Marlon Perhaus at the Office of Aeronautics and determine if he is available for the June or July membership meeting.

 

C.         Fly and Fish Event

Motion: Dave Johnson moved to establish a date in September for the event contingent on 2-3 people being willing to organize the event. Jake Hamlin seconded the motion.  The motion was passed.

 

C.                 Web Site Maintenance

Discussion occurred to update the roster and provide meeting minutes on a monthly basis.  Dated material should be deleted.  Additional actions will be tabled until discussion can occur with the web site developer.

 

B.                 Anoka Aviation Days

Glen Terry was present with MBA banners at Janes Field in Anoka on May 20.  He did not fly, but assembled the gondola.  Dave and Sue Johnson were present and Dave emphasized that public attendance was large for a general aviation event.  The event organizers identified all participants including Glen at the event.

 

VII.           New Business

A.                 Membership Cards

During the Safety Seminar Committee meeting Dick Cool Sr. displayed the Arizona ballooning club membership cards.

 

Motion:  Dave Johnson moved to study the prospect of creating MBA membership cards.  Glen Terry seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

 

Motion: Dave Johnson moved to establish a committee to create a number of draft versions for annual membership cards. Jake Hamlin seconded the motion.  The motion passed. 

Members are Jake Hamlin, Dave Johnson, and Glen Terry.

 

B.                 MBA Pilot Pack

Discussion occurred to have literature, pins, MBA banner, and other MBA related items available to pilots and crew who are willing to promote the organization at events.

 

Dave Johnson stated that the materials for an envelope banner would cost approximately $100.  Further discussion was tabled for review at the June general membership meeting.

 

C.                 Meeting Minutes

Motion:  Dave Johnson moved to have meeting minutes sent out to the MBA membership.  Glen Terry seconded the motion.  The motion was passed.

A.                 Sioux Falls – June 9, 10, and 11.

 

B.                 Rochester – June 23, 24, and 25

 

C.                 Truman – July 21, 22, and 23

 

D.                 Faribault – September 8, 9, and 10

 

E.                   MBA Fishing Contest – September 16

 

F.             Round Barn Fun Rally (Bill Marhoun)

Pilots must RSVP Bill Marhoun by June 1, 2000 at (715) 792-2181 or bmarhoun@pressenter.com. The event will be held September 30-October 1, 2000 in Beldenville, WI.  Food, propane, and refreshments will be provided.

 

*Congratulations to Glen Terry for celebrating his 50th birthday this month.

           

VIII.            Meeting Adjourned

Glen Terry made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Jake Hamlin seconded the motion.  The motion was passed.

 

IX.       Next Meeting

The next monthly meetings of the MBA will be Monday, June 19 and Monday, July 17.

 

* At the Monday, June 19 meeting a representative from the Princeton Flight Service Station will be presenting information and answering questions relative to ballooning requests.
