Minnesota Ballooning Association (MBA)
Safety Seminar Committee
Thursday, October 26, 2000
- Meeting called to order at 7:00p.m. (Dave Johnson)
In attendance: Dave Johnson, Bill Marhoun, Glen Terry, Jake Hamlin, and Matt Wiederkehr.
- Confirmed Presenters/Topics.
- Bill Griffin is confirmed to speak on the practical application of meteorology toward a balloon flight.
- Marlon Perhaus is confirmed to speak about FARs.
- Bill Marhoun and Matt Wiederkehr identified first responders to speak about first aid. Need names and phone numbers to confirm presenters. Red cross will provide literature for reference.
- Glen Terry contacted and identified an individual from highway patrol to discuss traffic obstruction, trespassing, etc.
- Dave and Glen spoke with Bill Colander at Fiesta and he is interested in presenting a segment regarding trailer safety.
- Other Potential Presenters/Topics.
- One hour will be designated to discuss and demonstrate various quick releases.
In addition, one hour will be designated for discussion and demonstration of tether operations. Depending on the weather conditions will determine the amount of time designated for tether and quick release operations.
- Orv Olivier, Scott Christensen, and Mark West have offered to speak at the
seminar.
- Other topics that were mentioned include awareness of fabric quality of used
balloons, fire extinguishers, and on board leaks.
- Assignments for committee members.
- George Ibach will contact Bill Zangs to speak about FARs/airspace regulations.
- Matt Wiederkehr will provide name and address of EMT presenter and offered to donate an inflator.
- Dave Johnson will contact Marlon Perhaus to determine if the MBA web site address can be included in the notification to local pilots about the safety seminar.
- Glen Terry will work with Sam Blackburn to construct a link describing the safety seminar from the MBA site. Glen will also provide the number of attendees from last year’s safety seminar. Glen will contact Johnson Sales to find out information about a fire extinguisher demonstration.
- Bill Marhoun will contact a representative from Siefert’s Aviation to discuss communications at the safety seminar. Bill will also provide firewood for additional heat during the seminar.
- Jake Hamlin will contact individuals to present on the topics of airspace regulations and crew preparedness.
All speakers will be provided with a hotel room and gas money as necessary.
The above assignments need to be completed by Friday, November 10. Dave and Jake will be following up to collect information regarding the assignments.
